| Subject: AEG Gearbox Size question. Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:42 am | |
| So, I'm looking to upgrade my gearbox, but there seems to be several choices in regards to sizing... 7mm, 8mm, or 9mm?????? o_O?
I'm not sure what my gun currently has... I know it's version 2, m16 wired to the rear.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

| You can either check the stats of the site you bought it from, call the company, or measure the bushings on the outside of the gearbox. Without a MM measuring device this could be hard to identify. Just measure the diameter of the exposed bushing from the outside of the mechbox.
6mm is a HAIR under a 1/4" and if looking carelessly it looks like 1/4".
7mm is about 4.5/16" or 9/32".
8mm is about 5/16". | |

| The larger the mm a gearbox is rated means the bushing size it uses. It doesn't mean as much for solid bushings but if it comes with or you want to upgrade to bearing bushings, the larger the bearings the better. 6mm bearings tend to break down fast, 7mm and up typically get more durable as the number goes up.
When you use solid bushings, about the only thing that having a larger solid bushing would do is disperse heat better. It's really not all that incredible though.
