PostSubject: Camo Pattern - Paper tear method   Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:34 pm

This is a thread started from another thread I STOLE from Geist and heres the link just so I don't have to put the pics up again. Mauahahahahaha
http://firezone-airsoft.forumotion.com/kabul-arms-market-f7/looking-for-vsr-10-ca-m24-or-any-other-sniper-full-guns-or-parts-t257.htm

You take heavy paper like drawing paper that tears with a wide fray.

Make several random tear strips about 5" or more wide...making sure to not tear in a straight line. The more wavy or jagged the better depending on the effect you want. Try to use long paper like size B I think it is. Giving yourself a long rip allows you to move it up or down on each spray to keep from doing the same old line again.

When I do spray its usually a quick swipe around 4" from the surface. There's nothing I hate more than seeing spray paint blob or drip... Very Happy

Take the first strip and lay VERY close to surface and spray at a random angle. Keeping very close gives you the soft hard edge but keep it floating because when you do the next stripe if you touch the body you can get unwanted paint marks.

Keep the lines going at random angles you feel look right about 4-5" or more apart depending on the size of the item. You have to bear in mind the spray width the nozzle makes from your torn edge to the drop off on the opposite side.

After working across the item grab your next tear and work your next color in. On this rifle I started with the darker color first then worked to the lighter but by changing the layer it can change the effect.

This rifle was also done with the OD to the left and the Tan to the right but I noticed on another item doing them the same direction looks interesting too.

Here are some other test patterns using the paper tear method.

As you can see the tighter you make the variations the more interesting it can get but perhaps too busy for some items. The first image has the rips going vertical with no angle variations. The others start getting more angle varied.

Good stuff. I used a tear technique on my sons G36 sniper.
I sprayed it flat black as a base.
I used 2" blue painters tape torn down the middle in uneven tears. I laid the 2 pieces of tape back to back so the flat edges met and over lapped to give me uneven pattern.
than I sprayed in angled motions with OD, tan and a green that looks like the one they use for multi-cam.
The black ended up a little too pronounced but otherwise turned out well.

If you don't mind, get some images in here...maybe this thread name can be changed and it can be a gallery of camo types and how to do them.

I like the contrast a lot. I think the black edges would look better soft but that is one AWESOME CAMO. Kinda like new age tiger stripe or something...very unique.

Its hard to tell in the picture but the lines are fuzzy. I tore the tare back across itself so it was jagged and uneven
After I painted it, I wished that I had laid down a coat of flat black for a base, The black is the factory black finnish.

Yeah I think so. Its a cheap gun. I bought it from Mongi like 2 days before he closed. It only shoots like 260-290fps with .20's but it lays down 20+rps with the stock 9.6v 700mah battery. I'll probably bring it on Sun and run it through Tedders chrono. It only has a 30 round lowcap mag wich sux because of the rate of fire, but it does use TM style G36 mags.
