| In hopefully what will be 3 weeks, I'll be looking to get a M4. I want ideas or stuff people are selling to help me out; this can be new, used, or boneyard guns/parts. I want something that's cheap but is very user friendly as far as upgrading internals/externals. Would it be better to go with a more pricey M4 and not get as many upgrades or a lower one with better upgrades?
Also wouldn't mind suggestions for any other types of guns that might be similar or just your personal favorites (scar, bullpup etc.)
Thanks, Stephan | |

| I'm ordering some KWA SR10's. LiPO is all it needs to kick ass. M4's are pretty upgradable in every aspect as long as its a known brand. Some of the lesser brands do not have a reinforced gearbox. It will be OK for a while but you will be limited to the FPS/RPS you can run before failure. You'll be $50 in accuracy upgrades. (Barrel, hop-up ect.) If you want 400FPS you need metal bushings, shims, piston and head, M120 spring and probably a new motor. Thats going to run $50-$125. Its not that bad if you dont mind spreading the buil over time. But if you want to buy the gun and do these upgrades right away, you may want to consider just buying a good gun to start with. | |

| Like you said, I want a gun that can last. I'm not going to get something cheap knowing it will break down later. I'll probably get upgrade parts as I go a long. I may get a few things right off the bat, but save up for later.
I don't really want to spend $200 on a gun, but I know that's where you can get some good quality.

| Reliability is all about the parts used and maintnence and how treat it.
I was mearly stating that you will end up spending quit a bit on repairing and upgrading. All M4's have the same V2 gear box (except ICS,CTW,PTW) so parts are extremly abundant.
If your planning on keeping the gun for a while than I would suggest getting a metal body.

| I want something that is a good mediator between my M14 (long distance suppressive weapon) and my MP5 (CQB).
I want something with metal internals and externals, but I dont want it to weigh as much as my M14. Maybe some metal exterior but not full.

| Yeah, there Echos. Model depends on what you want to spend. Plastic bodies and free float RIS dont mix well. Just take a look at the big stores and see what thay've got. Echo1 is currently switching brands so they are slim pickins right now but thier around. My Echo supplier is just about out of everything in preperation of the new models. | |

| Check an ICS sportline it has the same internals as my $300 full metal m4 but with a resin receiver instead of metal easy to work on and shoots great. Bob. | |

| The only NEW ICS for uder $200 is the ICS M4 Pistols.. Evike has them for $185, but a google search can get you a 15% coupon... It is what I call a bare bones ICS... | |

| When I think M4, I tend to think G&G and Airsoft GI. However, when I was looking for one, I gave serious thought to an Ares M4. At the time, Evike had the CQB and the standard version for $250 a piece. Evike has sold out and tells me that they are discontinued, but I think that might be a load. For their price, the quality you were getting, and the fantastic spring mechanism which should be in every gun, Ares is worth taking a look at. I ended up not getting an M4, but getting their SR25 instead. | |

| I can do some of the new G&G M4's for $200. Im ordering a G&G GR16 blowback on Mon. that is in that price range. Holden has the same gun so check it out on Sun.
ARES has a new version M$ comming out that will probably run in the mid $200 range. They still have a bunch of pro series M4's but they are mid $300 & up.

| I settled with a king arms m4. Some upgraded internals, Got it off of airsoftforums or should I say "going to". Due to the fact I live at home and I get the "its our house our rules deal" I can't make it Sunday.......that's very very disappointing. =( take pictures for me.. | |

| Which KA M4?
For the price of the KA, the new KWA SR's may be a better AEG.
Im not knocking the KA guns but the KWA SR's and the G&G Pro's have bullet proof internals and are shooting 400FPS out of the box.

| I think you have to go out and independently investigate what gun works for you. I have heard people curse JG up and down, but love Echo 1. I've heard them rant and rave about Echo's contacts sucking and that G&G is superior. Then, I've heard someone else laugh at a guy for buying G&G because he could have had comparable internals in a JG. What airsoft boils down to is three things: Patience Intelligence Money If you have the patience, I can give you a box of internals and you'll eventually put a gearbox together. If you're smart enough, you can find a way to make it all work a little faster. If you have enough money, you can pay some other poor bastard who is patient enough or intelligent enough to do the work for you. You have to buy what makes you happy. Because ultimately, the old saying sticks: Opinions are like buttholes. Everybody has one and everybody thinks everyone else's stinks. | |
