Echo 1 MP5 motor noise Empty
PostSubject: Echo 1 MP5 motor noise   Echo 1 MP5 motor noise EmptyWed May 05, 2010 2:28 pm

So I fixed a friend's MP5 and now I am reassembling. Once I put the motor and the motor plate on, I pulled the trigger to test fire. The motor was making a seizing sound. The sound is identical to the one you get when the motor height is off. It just clicks and nothing else. I didn't mess with the motor height and instead decided to loosen the bottom plate to see if maybe I had overtightened. I got this horrible screeching grinding noise. I tried to adjust the motor and got it again. The fuse burnt out. Now, I took a look inside after I took the motor off and the pinion and gears looks fine.

This is my first time working on a V2 gearbox and I'm positive the issue has to do with the motor height. Any ideas?

Adjust it all the way down, pull the trigger enough to make it turn and listen to it. Turn it like a half turn or whole turn and pull again. Keep adjusting it higher and higher until it sounds right. Do not pull the trigger long each time though or you may strip the teeth.

Also make sure that the motor is not being bound up with the motor wires. Make sure that it is floating properly and able to actually move with the adjustments.

I'm thinking that last part might be the issue. This is another reason why I love the V6 gearbox. It makes so much more sense to make the motor mount a part of the gearbox.

did you open the gearbox?
Is your shimming too tight?
Make sure you tuck the wires into the groove at the back of the handel and that you can push the motor in and it will spring back with ease.

I'm about ready to give up on this gun. I'm trying to fix it for a friend and I fixed the major issue. This thing is just so aggravating to put together.

V3's usually do the same thing. So nice when you need to test fire a gun just to make sure the gearbox is working right.

Nope. The guy wanted it back. The issue with it was that I hate V2 gearboxes. Putting the motor in is ridiculous and requires little fingers and having everything fall in just perfectly. I did find a V2 gearbox that had a bracket for the motor. That was kind of cool. What I'll do with my V2's is just do all the work on the gearbox, assemble it all except for the motor, and just bring it out to a game and have someone mess with it. I'll come up with the patience to deal with it overtime, but I'll stick to V6 and V3 for now.
