Silicone oil weight Empty
PostSubject: Silicone oil weight   Silicone oil weight EmptySun May 23, 2010 2:46 pm

Hey all, been a while since I've actively posted on the forums, but I was doing some maintenance and shopping yesterday when I came across a conundrum. A local hobby shop that does RC cars and such has silicone oil in MUCH greater quantities for relatively the same price as the smaller eyedrop-style Airsoft varieties; however, because it's made for RC gearings, it comes in a variety of different weights. Is anyone familiar with the weight of your standard airsoft silicone oil?

The silicone oil for r/c cars is for the shocks not the gears. You can most likely use 10-20 weight oil for your gun it should be thin enough to work good. Bob

X2 on Bobs statemant.

The oil weight you need to use depends on the task intended. I use #10 in my propane adaptor for my gas guns because it will "atomize" into the mag when I fill them with propane to lube everything.

You can go as high as #25 for maint. depending on what you are doing, but keep in mind that the viscocity of oil will very based on temperature so you may want to use lighter weights during the winter than you would during the summer.

Thanks for the info, everyone. Living in Florida, though, I didn't think the temperature fluctuations would be much of an issue. I'll have to pick up some more of a lighter weight.
