PostSubject: Showing off my build   Mon May 24, 2010 9:31 pm

I mentioned this gun in the "Newest Project thread", but I thought, why not have a thread dediced the Win/Fail of this gun.. This gun will always be a part of my collection. It is the first gun I ever purchased Brand New (From Evike, and it was not in new condition when it arrived)... It is the first gun I ever upgraded. And as you read below, I have learned more about Airsoft and People through this gun.. Thanks Gun...

Well, here we go... I am done with this darn ICS externally, Internally not so much.. $150 worth of internals in route right now... But this is the Pic section...

The current look is the best one yet.. I think I need to do a color tweak here and there, but all in all I think it is a beast... And as long as I like it, it is win.... I need to take a pic of it how it looks today, I will post that pic shortly..

Criticism is my muse, so hack away... If all you can talk about is the paint, save that for something else.. I like to be different.

Parts list Internally is almost identical to the 614 Project.. I love consistancy and reliability... One build will dictate another build:
Systema 130 Spring
Systema Turbo Motor/G&P M120 (I switch between the two every game)
SHS Hi Speed Gears
E-F Cheetah MOSFET/Firefet AB by Fireman (Local gun tech guru) I switch between the two depending on Battery setup
10.8v Battery for Outdoor games where Precision is needed (28 RPS)
11.1v 3000mah 35c for CQB games (35 RPS)
Lo Resistance Wiring
Element Type b Cylinder
Systema Area 1000 Piston head/Cylinder Head
PDI 6.01 TBB 375mm
Guarder Metal Spring guide with bearings
Bravo Reinforced Piston with metal teeth

This gun was initially built to be my work horse, but it has never worked as intended.. So over time I have built, rebuilt, and rebuilt some more. I am on the verge of making it a trophy piece... The money and time invested could have been a PTW at this point, but I have learned so much from this gun about Airsoftg and people I will never give up on it..

Externals are easily verified, but I will talk about those as well.
JP Rifle Kit (Paid $140 for the handguuard and a bent outer barrel) Lesson one learned about people....
Custom Painted ICS Body from a local gun tech
SOCOM Stock (I love this thing) ($60 version)
Ultrafire wp500 Tac Light (DealExtreme Special, under $30 shipped)
Custom painted Firegrip and stock (I used engine paint "Cast Iron")

Pics without new body

I will take current pics in the am outside so you all can get a good look at the colors and make valid judgement on my progress with it. For me the most rewarding Mod is the Paint... It can make a gun look brand new, and in some cases make a gun look totally different than b4....

I do plan to revisit the ICS M4 Pistol build... I want to buy another new one and start from Scratch... I get more joy from modding/fixing AEG's than I do out of playing with them... Most of the time at least.

The experience of this guns build makes me extremely comfortable with ICS M4's and their wonderfully thought out Split Gearbox design.

FTR, as it always comes up.. I got the Banana Mags from Havoc, and have yet to find them for sale anywhere... he refuses to remember where he got them... They are Midcaps, and feed like no other I have used.. They look wierd at first, but you get used to them and then love them, at least that is how it worked for me... I love them...

It looks much better.

I've been thinking... for the sake of durability, has anyone thought of powder coating? I don't know if maybe the tolerances on some of these parts is too tight for it.

Powder coating could work, but I have not found a local shop capable of doing it.. I tried 3 different places and was told no by all.. I stripped the paint to the metal and cleaned them perfectly, and noone would do it.. One said it could be done, but it was not cost effective for him to do for me..

I was going to try getting a kit from Harbour Frieght...

I thought so... it was prob more the "Brotha with a gun" aspect of things... Especially since I was going to pay for everything... But it was not that important for me.

Shwell, nice build looks fantastic . I have an ics m4 too , love the split gearbox all aeg's should have one . As far as powdercoat goes try Eastwoods , it is a car restoration supply place you can get a do it yourself kit and for a good paint look up Lauer weapons paint I used it on my real steal guns works fantastic some oem manufactures use it . The stuff comes in many different colors and he has many templates to do many different camo patterns great paint. Keep up the good work. Bob.
