Subject: UTG L96 problems Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:00 am
so i have run into a problem, my UTG L96 that im selling to Geist sunday suddenly started acting funny. i just wanted to make sure it was still shooting strong and accurate for him when he buys it. only problem is when i pull the bolt back, instead of pushing it forwards and shooting like normal, the bolt shoots forwards, and doesnt shoot. Any ideas or help?

Lero your best bet is to take it down sometimes when the trigger is too loose or to tight this will happen on an l96. My Mauser does this quite frequently (one reason I don't bring it to games) so your best bet is to take everything down pull the trigger set off the receiver make sure it's working correctly. If everything is cool just put it together it should work fine.

Your trigger sear is not locking on to the piston. It may be that someting is not allowing you to draw the piston all the way past the sear or the sear itself isnt working properly. Take the two allen head bolts out from the bottem (one by mag well and one behind trigger), seperate the receiver and you will be able to see the trigger assemby. Once you pull the guide retainer you will be able to remove the bolt and look inside.

well im sure that doing that would probably fix the rifle, and i did, the only problem is im not sure how to put it back together, can anyone direct me to a site or video reassembling the l96?

well i found out that it isnt a UTG, its actually a AGM AWP L96 (its my friends gun that im selling for him, he told me it was UTG) And thanks for the help holden, but mine doesnt have the same trigger mech, thats what im having a tough time on =[

UPDATE: well i found a good picture of the trigger mech, and put it all together, but maybe i didnt put it together right... because now it shoots when i close the bolt... lol

There is definitely something up with the trigger then if its shooting as soon as you close the bolt I am thinking the screws that hold the trigger to the receiver are too loose. cause maybe the jolt of closing the bolt is causing the trigger to drop down thus releasing the piston.
But Im not certain as I have no idea how that trigger works I am just going on how most l96 triggers work. But at least its locking now so thats half the battle LOL

So after doing some research on this I found out the issue with this gun it is basically a hodgepodge of a Bar-10 and an APS-2 really friggin weird but it uses the same trigger mech as a Bar-10/VSR-10 so if you look up VSR-10 trigger assembly I am sure you will find a cornucopia of videos on it. Hope this helps

well i was going to bring it out anywayz to sell to geist, but i wanted to make sure it worked properly before selling it to him... so im glad i inspected it... But thanks alot guys for the support, holden it seems you actually put in some good effort to try and help. this is why; 1. i love airsoft, it brings together some cool ass people. 2. i love this forum, same reasons. 3. i hate http://airsoftsniper.proboards.com/index.cgi, they are a bunch of extreme rule abiding pricks.

Yeah since you are bringing it out we can all take a look at it but it sounds like either you installed one of the sears wrong or the sears are just shot which I believe is about a 20 dollar part for the VSR-10 and a common problem with the JG Bar-10s.

does anybody know if you can buy the small black plastic arm that adjusts the hop up on the bucker? cause mine snapped and i can only find the entire bucker being sold, and does anybody know where to buy hop up rubbers?

Nobody sells the nub arm as a seperate part. Youll have to order an entire hop up unit to fix it. You'll have to shop for a Bucking. It wont be real easy to find.
If you've got the money, get a PDI hop-up and a new Tight Bore barrel. The PDI hop will let you use standard AEG barrels and buckings, plus it doesnt have the little lip on the front of the nub arm that breaks on all UTG MK96's.
oh, and im not sure if it was you that i was talkng to on saturday about putting dental floss on the hop up rubber, but if it was, what type of tape did you say to use and how did you open up the cylinder to put a bigger spacer in?

It was me and its called "teflon" tape. They make a PDI hop-up for the stock style barrel also. The problem is that you will have to shop hard to find PDI parts for th "96" IN STOCK.
well i ran into another problem with my L96, it seems to always be shooting left and i have tried many times to correct this but it just doesnt seem to be working. i also have taken the bucker piece and tried my best to align it with the hop up rubber when its on the barrel. its still curving, any thoughts?
