To me the main advantage of plastic or ABS is the weight. It also tends to be more forgiving of being bent. Sometimes the metal used on AEG bodies is not happy to be flexed and will snap where ABS would have had no issues.
The major part that comes to mind are the little rings tabs on the upper receiver of an M4 that go into the lower receiver and then have the rear pin pushed through.
On a lot of metal bodies that have been opened a lot, one or both of these will be missing. On a plastic body these much of the time survive the abuse unless they have REALLY been knocked around.
I like plastic because it can be glued or fiberglassed back together and be more solid than JB weld on pot metal.
I'd say that if you get a gun with a metal body, try to find one that actually says what the metal is (steel, aluminum, etc.) as opposed to just "metal" and you'll be more likely to have less issues.
