Subject: New Project in the Works Fri May 14, 2010 7:36 am
Well, after breaking the Hinge on my Scar for the 3rd time, it is time to say goodbye.. I love this gun, and it has performed outstandingly over the past 4 months. It has made me appreciate the art of Modding. It was the first hi Speedish setup I built myself. I learned quite a bit on this project...
Here is its parts list: 363mm DB Custom TBB (6.01) G&P M120 Motor AB MOSFET by Fireman (I will be calling these FireFETS for now on it is shorter) Low resistance wiring Shim job from heaven by Fireman Custom painted by me Systema Area 1000 cylinder/head/piston/nozzle 11.1v 3000mah 35c Lipo
This one shoots around 33 rps and is very accurate. FPS was kept low to ensure it was usable at every game, but it could easily maintain a hi ROF at 400 FPS.
BUT TRADE HAS BEEN MADE!
The new project is being built on the Echo1 614 platform. I took a slight loss and traded my Scar for an almost new 614 (Stock)... But for me the excitement is 80 build and 20% usage. So I win in my mind. I will be going to a quik detach mode for all my guns now. What this means is, I will be setting them all up to use MOSFETS, but none of the MOSFETS will be permanatly attached to a specific gun. I will have a FET setup for each gun, but I never want any gun to be down because I fried a FET. The downside to this decision is that I will be using external setups on everything.
I am posting this info (Because I am a postwhore) in hopes of sharing the build process with others, and also allowing feedback from those that have experience with custom builds and may have advice or input on my plans.
Goals: Reliability 395FPS 30 RPS Inexpensive parts
Upgrades: *Hop Up (no decision yet) SCS Nub ($6) Systema Bucking ($6 Has worked great in the past) Deep Fire Titanium tooth Piston ($40) *Piston head, cyl head, Nozzle combo to be determined *(I have not mastered the art of using these components yet) BB Spring guide (no brand decided) SHS Gearset 13:1 ($20 ebaybanned)/HS gearset 16:1 ($20 Ebaybanned) AMP T5000L Motor (TQ $40)/G&P M120 (HS $36) (I have 2 AMP Motors and one G&P already) PDI 375mm 6.01 TBB (Already have this ) OR if the PDI is too long I will use my 363mm Madbull 6.03 TBB Extreme-Fire Cheetah MOSFET or FireFET (Switchable between the 2)
*I havent decided on whether to go Bushing or bearings, but I am leaning toward Bushings (But if the GB has big enough Bushings I may go bearings.. decisions decisions)... This is where input is greatly appreciated.
As stated above, input is cherished and appreciated. This build if it goes according to plan will become my signature build plan... Basically this will be my standard Build.
* Input required...

You put all that in and you'll EASILY be at 30 if not more like 35-37 per second. In my M4 shooting in the 380's with standard gears and pretty much the same parts I was getting 33 a second. High speed gears thrown in there will top that for sure.

Thanks for the input...
What cylinder, head, nozzle combo do you suggest?
If I do in fact get the SHS gearset, I will more than likely run the AMP Torque motor.. I dont want it above 35 rps at all. Kinda makes my Midcaps useless..

I've always liked the Guarder steel dual o-ring cylinder head. I usually just use the stock air nozzle if it works and keep the stock cylinder too. Cylinder wise, I've never really seen an increase when going to a polished one. If there's a good air seal there's a good air seal. :-) I guess the polished would gain you speed supposedly but I don't think you're going to need it if you want to stay at 35 or less.

Got the gun yesterday... It is def in new condition... The only problem was the threading on the outer barrel has seen some better times for sure..
I'll take a few pics of it in its stock form today and also tear into it for the first time.. I really want to know what kind of Bushings are used in these Gearboxes... Cant build it for it to fail immediately.
Items to install today are: Rewire for MOSFET install PDI SS 6.01 TBB AMP T5000l Hi Torque Motor SCS Nub
Ordered today: Systema Bucking Shims Spring (350 FPS) Guarder Ball Bearing Spring Guide
This build is almost identical to my ICS build and is starting to look fairly ez to accomplish a second time around.. We will see though.
Pics shortly...

Not off to a good start gentlemen.. Rewired the gun yesterday for quik release MOSFET use. . Reshimmed
Replaced the Stock spring with a sub 350 FPS spring
Destroyed 3 Polycarb Pistons... Stock E1 Piston, Systema Area 1000, and in unknown....
I did not think they would last for long, but I also did not think they would break within one hi cap of use.. I was gonna wait a week for my Deep Fire piston to come in, but I wan this thing working now, so I am gonna try my Aluminum ICS piston and see what that does.. The AOE should be better for this one... This setup is ripping the Pickup tooth right off the back of the pistons. I may need to slow things down a bit.... 40 rps is a bit too much...

35c Lipo..... FPS is already too high with the stock Spring... I just installed a Short Stroked Metal toothed piston, so that should help in bot h areas... Now to work on other M4 Projects so I can get this kick arse M14 from this soon to be Military man I know....

I have decided to put this 614 Project on hold for a few weeks.... I still have to work out the issues in my ICS M4, so I figured I would finish the ICS first... But I will basically combine the two Projects into this Thread since the 2 guns will be swapping parts as needed to accomplish my goals...
I just spent over $100 on replacement parts that I hope will eliminate my Compression problems and also make this gun better suited for use at SOCOM (My Summertime playground)..
Here is the parts list for the ICS: Elemant Bore Up M4 Kit (Elcheapo) Red Plastic Hop Up unit (Used in the past with success) 5KU/SHS 13:1 Hi Speed Gears Guarder Ball Bearing Spring Guide Matrix PDI Type 170% Spring (This should put me in 400 FPS range, but goal is 350FPS Matrix/Aim HS Full Metal Tooth Piston/Bravo Metal teeth Piston (I think they are the same, but wont know until they arrive, both have been ordered) AMP Hi Torque Motor E-F Cheetah MOSFET and FireFET depending on days needs (I get faster ROF with FIREFET without doing tricks to Program)
This ICS gun has not worked 100% for me since day 1. SO my goal here is to gutt it and start fresh internally... Right now it works Great, with the exception of a compression problem between Nozzle and Hop Up.. I am using an unknown Nozzle, and a CA Hop Up.. This gun has pretty much been my tutor over the past 11 months.. I got a lot of guidance from Meatloaf and alot of guidance from the gun itself, so I give credit to them both for my current abilities. I want to complete this build so it can reflect my techie growth over the past few months... As I make changes and additions, I will post here for feedback and extra guidance. Externally it is the perfect gun imho, I just need it to perform as good as it looks.

Just want to let you know.
7mm bearing + 36 RPS = bearing explosions.
I've killed a few Prometheus 7mm bearings (could NOT believe it) and now a G&P 7mm bearing. I've ordered 7mm solid bushings because quite frankly, I'm tired of bearings falling apart.
It seems that bearings are made more for the 30-33 range and less. Any more and they just spin above their level it seems. :-/
I'd be curious to know how the Kanzens would stand up or maybe some larger bearings like 8 or 9mm
What size are yours?

No Shar, it is not ready.. I will enter it once it is complete... Prob the next one....
Fireman, it has Bushings not Bearings, if I put bearings it was a mistake.. I will never use bearings... And this GB is 6mm... Brass Bushings is not an option either... I will stay with the stock bushings until they are worn....
This m4 is an ICS Split GB design.. While ICS's design is outstanding when it comes to working on a GB... When it is time to upgrade bits, it becomes a nightmare , because standard upgrades do not always apply..
I WILL NOT LET THIS GUN DEFEAT ME! I SHALL BUILD THE PERFECT CQB WEAPON (IMHO) THAT WILL SEND THE ENEMY RUNNING FOR COVER>>>>> WISH ME LUCK!!!
