| helicoil gears, are stronger then regular gears, the teeth actually enguage them selves, at an angle instead of the regular straight enguagement.. its really hard to explane that part.. instead of meshing like this || they mesh like this.. //, making them stronger. They also tend to be alot more quiet.. If your good at shimming. there a pain in the ass to shim.. i will tell you that though | |

| Also, you're introducing forces acting in a different direction. I'm trying to shim a gearbox now with helical gears, but I take a break every so often to keep from going crazy. Thankfully, I'm only going to be shooting on semi with it and not full. | |

| Helical gears are used for high torque applications due to thier efficiency and thier ability to handle the force applied by the motor while trying to pull the heavy spring.
Because the teeth are at an angle, they have a larger surface area to distribute the load of the gears fighting against each other.
Shimming can be a b-otch but if you pay attention to what shims are where, yo can get them to line up without a ton of effort.

| So if you can get over the shimming, helical gears are always better then flat? Also, is the half piston required or it just makes sense to have? | |

| Half teeth are required due to the angle of the sectoer gear teeth that contact the spur gear.
The piston teeth on the sector gear are strait but the teeth that meet the spur gear are angled so a full tooth piston will bind as soon as the spur gear came in contact.

| Are you going to be out at PBW this weekend or no? I might need you to take a look at the gears I have and figure out what kind of piston I need. The gun was shooting fine before I took it apart and it looks like it has helical gears with a full piston. | |

| I will be out of town through Sunday night. I will be around Monday.
Did the gun have full helical gears stock with a full tooth piston?
Is the bevel to spur gear helical and the spur to sector gear strait?
What gearbox type is it?

| It's a V2. Spur to sector is helical. | |

| If the helical gears on the back of the sector gear do not protrude into the piston teeth than you may be fine. | |
